TIMEBANK Sports Volunteers
On Your Marks, Get Set… Be A Sport!
TimeBank,
the national volunteering charity, has recently launched Be
A Sport: a campaign to encourage more people to get involved
in sport by volunteering. In the UK, there are over one and
a half million sporting volunteers working across a diverse
range of opportunities, at different levels. Sport at a community
level is heavily dependent on people to fill a wide range
of roles aside from coaching, such as fundraising, marketing,
administration work, maintenance and catering positions. Whether
you see yourself as a cook or a coach, and would like to put
your time and skills to helping the future of British Sport,
then TimeBank are able to help you to do so.
To accompany Be A Sport, TimeBank have produced the Sports
Time Guide, the first directory in the UK to provide invaluable
advice, information and contact details of sporting organisations
in need of volunteers. The Sports Time Guide will be sent
to all volunteers who register for Be A Sport. Some of the
country’s leading sports stars have been quick to recognise
the importance of the hidden heroes who give their time and
skills to help aspiring sport stars reach the peak of their
careers, including Gary Lineker, Mike Atherton, Sharon Davies,
and the record-breaking yachtswoman, Ellen MacArthur;

“Without the thousands of volunteers
who turn out at every type of sporting event across the country,
the competitors and spectators alike would not be able to
enjoy their sport to the extent they do. Getting new volunteers
involved is vital to the growth of sport – whatever
it is – so please support the ‘Be a Sport’
campaign in any way you can.”
Ellen MacArthur, Skipper Team Kingfisher
“Be A Sport is exactly the sort of campaign
that helps people to fulfil their sporting potential. Without
the help of volunteers, a great deal of sporting talent in
the UK would never get the chance to shine.”
Mike Atherton
Former England Cricket Captain
