FIA WTCC NEWSLETTER # 37 – 21 September 2007
YOKOHAMA TEST NEW RAIN TYRES
New rain tyres for the FIA World Touring Car Championship’s
next two seasons were tested Wedneday at the Snetterton circuit
in England.
Chevrolet and BMW took part with one car each, driven by
Nicola Larini and Augusto Farfus respectively, testing the
new Yokohama/Advan tyres.
“We have compared our current rain tyres with the one
we have developed for the next two years. The drivers have
completed short and long runs, with both the 2007 and the
new tyres and on both a completely wet and a drying track,”
explained Yokohama Europe Motorsport Manager Matthijs Mathlener.
Following an invitation to tender, Yokohama was appointed
by the FIA World Motor Sport Council to supply the control
tyre for the 2008 and 2009 FIA WTCC.
TURKINGTON AND HUISMAN GO TO MACAU
Colin Turkington and Duncan Huisman will take part
in the FIA WTCC final meeting of the season at Macau at the
wheel of Aviva BMW 320is cars run by the WSR team. The sponsorship
deal was announced yesterday by Aviva at The Motorsport Industry
Association’s Annual Summer Reception held at London’s
House of Lords. Simon Machell, Chief Executive of Aviva Asia
Pacific, commented: “Aviva are delighted to announce
our new sponsorship in the WTCC. Asia is extremely important
in our growth plans. The comprehensive TV rights deal that
the WTCC has will help us promote our One Aviva message across
the globe. We felt that the WTCC was perfect to demonstrate
Aviva values.”
Turkington, who stands fifth in the British Touring Car Championship,
will make his WTCC debut this weekend at Brands Hatch. Dutchman,
Duncan Huisman, is a previous winner of the WTCC round in
Macau having won the second race in 2005.
KRYLOV REPLACES SADREDINOV
Because of a trivial passport problem, Russian yougster Timur
Sadredinov will be force to skip Brands Hatch. He will be
replaced at the wheel of the third GR Asia SEAT León
by his fellow countryman Sergey Krylov. Krylov, 43-year old
from Moscow, is a regular competitor in the Russian Touring
Car Championship; he achieved his best international result
in 2005, finishing 2nd in the FIA European Super Production
Cup at Vallelunga.
NO POINTS FOR TURKINGTON
Colin Turkington will not be eligible to score championship
points in Brands Hatch. The Team RAC BMW 320si of the driver
from Northern Ireland is fitted with an X-trac sequential
gearbox and therefore it was accepted by the Touring Car Bureau
on the basis of a national homologation.
This, according to article 10b of the WTCC Sporting Regulations
means that the car is transparent as far as points are concerned.
