FIA WTCC NEWSLETTER # 18 – 11 May 2007
ROUTE TO: VALENCIA, SPAIN
The 5rd and 6th rounds of the FIA WTCC will take place next
week in Spain, at Valencia’s Circuito Ricardo Tormo.
This is the fourth consecutive visit of the FIA Touring Car
Championship to the Spanish stadium-like racetrack, where
last year a crowd of 59,000 attended.
The event will be presented to the local media next Wednesday,
May 16th, at 5.00 pm, in a press conference at Valencia’s
Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, the futuristic complex
designed by architect Santiago Calatrava.
WTCC Spanish drivers – Jordi Gené, Félix
Porteiro, Sergio Hernández and María De Villota
will attend the event.

MARÍA DE VILLOTA RETURNS TO WTCC
María De Villota, the 27-year old Spanish lady driver,
will return to the FIA WTCC next week to take part in her
home race meeting at Valencia. Like she did on the occasion
of the World Championship’s visit last year to the Circuito
de la Comunidad Valenciana, María – daughter
of former Formula One driver Emilio De Villota – will
be at the wheel of a Maurer Motorsport Chevrolet Lacetti car
backed by Chevrolet España. The very same machine she
will be driving in the German ADAC Procar Championship that
starts on Sunday in Oschersleben.
TWO RUSSIAN BEARS IN SPAIN
After their maiden appearance in the FIA WTCC at Zandvoort,
the Russian Bears Motorsport team will also take part in the
meeting of Valencia. Two of the team’s three BMW 320i
cars will race in Spain, driven by Lev Fridman and Viktor
Shapovalov. At Zandvoort they were joined by Evgeny Zelenov,
at the wheel of an identical car, and all the three Russian
drivers managed to finish both races, scoring points for the
Independents’ Trophy.
