ROUTE TO: BRNO, CZECH REPUBLIC
The 9th and 10th rounds of the FIA WTCC will take place next
week in the Czech Republic, at Brno’s Masaryk Circuit.
This is a traditional meeting for the championship, as Brno
hosted the European Touring Car Championship from 2002 to
2004 and then the World Touring Car Championship last year.
BMW scored 5 victories out of the eight races, Alfa Romeo
2 and Chevrolet 1. The 2006 edition saw Jörg Müller
(BMW) and Robert Huff (Chevrolet) sharing the laurels.
The championship arrives in Brno with Andy Priaulx in solo
lead with a 2-point margin over Farfus, while Müller
slipped to a further 9 points adrift. The best non- BMW driver
is Yvan Muller, fourth, 14 points from the leader.
CZECH RACE MEETING LAUNCHED YESTERDAY
The WTCC Race of the Czech Republic was launched yesterday
in front of large media representative, on the media day of
the Brno Auto Salon at Brno’s Exhibition Centre. Last
year’s WTCC winners Jörg Müller and Robert
Huff attended the event. Like last year the Brno round of
the WTCC will be sponsored by the Czech Tourism Office, while
national TV will provide massive coverage. Both races will
be televised live on CT2 (terrestrial) and CT4 (digital terrestrial),
while CT1’s popular morning programme will be broadcast
live from the track on Friday morning. Highlights of the races
will be shown in the automotive programmes “Svet Motoru”
and “102 Oktanu”.
MAXIMUM BALLAST FOR PRIAULX AND FARFUS
For the first time in the current season two drivers will
carry the maximum handicap weight. Andy Priaulx and Augusto
Farfus – first and second in the championship after
Pau – will have 60 extra kilos on board their BMW cars
at Brno, while Jörg Müller – who remained
scoreless in France – will be on 45.
A total of 14 drivers are on ballast, including newcomer
Philip Geipel.

GUEST APPEARANCE FOR PHILIP GEIPEL Philip
Geipel and his TFS-Yaco Racing Toyota Corolla T-Sport will
take part in the FIA WTCC meeting at Brno. This is the second
appearance in the series for the 21- year old German driver,
who made his WTCC debut last year in Brno.
PEDALÁ REPLACES COLCIAGO AT BRNO
Further to the incident occurred last Saturday at Pau, just
before the qualifying session and that resulted in a dislocated
shoulder, SEAT Sport Italia driver Roberto Colciago will be
forced to skip the meeting of Brno. He will be replaced by
Massimiliano Pedalà who drove the team’s second
SEAT León at Valencia.
