ROUNDS 5 & 6 QUALIFYING QUOTES
Rickard RYDELL - SEAT Sport Sverige, pole position
“I was hoping it would rain in the session because
I had previously done well in wet conditions. I stayed out
two or thee laps too long on the wet tyres and when I changed
to slicks for the last 10 minutes I did a couple of fast laps,
slowed down for a period and finally tried again for pole.
The conditions were incredibly difficult because there is
only one dry line and if you miss it by 10cm you are in a
wall. As a result I tried to be safe but you have to push
hard because everyone else is pushing. This track suits the
León because the straights aren’t too long and
it works well on all types of corners.”
Peter TERTING - SEAT Sport Deutschland, 2nd fastest
“This is my first visit to Brands Hatch and I didn’t
expect to be second on the grid so I’m really happy.
I like this circuit, it reminds me of the old Nürburgring
with its fast, blind corners. Throughout the day’s sessions
it was wet, then dry, then a mixture so it was difficult to
judge. I will try to encore my performance in Mexico last
year when I won, but I have to remember that I have Rickard
in front of me who has great experience here. What is also
important is that SEAT get points to keep them leading the
manufacturers’ championship.”
Robert HUFF – Chevrolet, 3rd fastest
“We discovered today that the car is better in the
wet and me lining up 3rd is fantastic for us. Regarding my
incident on the last lap, I was pushing too hard. I was chasing
Rickard (Rydell) and overstepped the mark at Westfield. The
car looks worse than it is; the damage seems to be cosmetic.
I want a podium on my home track and I am hoping for wet conditions
tomorrow.”
Tom CORONEL – GR Asia, 7th fastest
“That qualifying was just unbelievable! In these conditions
you can really show the potential of the team but you have
to be clever and chose your moment. I’m very happy with
the new car. For a lot of the session I was in a sandwich
of two top drivers with Yvan Muller in front and Rydell behind.
In that situation you just have to follow their lines. To
be honest I didn’t know what I was doing! I was just
doing what they were doing! But obviously both myself and
the car are capable of that pace or we’d have been in
the wall.”
Pierre-Yves CORTHALS – JAS Motorsport, 9th
fastest
“It was a really strange qualifying – we had
every kind of weather. You just couldn’t pick the right
tyres. In my last stint I stayed out a long time and put in
a really good lap to qualify ninth, but the lap before I was
18th and the lap before that I was sixth! I just had a good
set of tyres and could take more and more risks. You have
to be confident at Brands Hatch but I just felt better and
better the more laps I did.”
Andy PRIAULX – BMW Team UK, 10th fastest
“Tenth is more or less where I have been all weekend.
However, I think I could have been up to fifth but I took
my new tyres too early. It is a hard call here about what
to do, but a later stop or a final one for new tyres would
have given me that extra speed and got me up the time sheets.
Carrying 70 kilos was always going to be very difficult, but
it is nice to be the quickest BMW driver.”
Gianni MORBIDELLI – N.technonogy, 12th fastest
“I’m not really happy. Unfortunately we still
don’t have enough grip in the car especially in the
rear. We suffered a lot of oversteer, this is the main problem.
We have to reduce this but we don’t really understand
which way to go.”
