ROUNDS 7 & 8 RACE QUOTES
Andy PRIAULX – BMW Team UK, 1st in Race 1,
10th in Race 2
“It’s great that I’m in joint lead of the
championship but it doesn’t mean much at this point
in the season because just like last year, I predict the championship
will be decided in the last race. Leading as I did in the
first race is definitely easier than being in the middle of
the pack but I wouldn’t call it easy. I struggled a
little bit this weekend so I knew that I had to make a break
at the beginning of Race 1 which I did. I thought that with
the reverse grid it would be difficult and unfortunately I
missed a gear coming into the chicane which lost me two places
and one point. I am looking forward to the end of the year
because that is when it gets really fun.”
Jörg MÜLLER – BMW Team Germany, 7th
in Race 1, 1st in Race 2
“We changed the set-up between the races because the
car wasn’t right in the first race due to the fact we
hadn’t had enough dry testing here at Oschersleben.
In the second race it felt much better and it was a question
of not making any mistakes. The championship is sure to stay
this close for the whole season and it’ll probably come
down to who has the best package in Macau; hopefully it’s
me.”
Dirk MÜLLER – BMW Team Germany, 2nd in
Race 1, 3rd in Race 2
“Being just 1 point behind the championship lead is
pretty encouraging. I feel really great about this weekend
because the car was brilliant. I had some bad luck when I
lost time in qualifying after Huff made a mistake and went
wide. From my starting position in the first race it took
me a while to work my way to the front and then I tried to
close the gap between Andy and myself. I managed to do it
but needed a few more laps to overtake! In the second race
I had an incredible start; I anticipated the lights and it
was perfect. From 7th position I was up with Farfus on the
first corner and at that stage I was so excited. Farfus was
much quicker on the straight which is probably a result of
his lack of ballast. I decided to drop back and stick with
third position focusing on the points.”
Augusto FARFUS – N.technology, 6th in Race
1, 2nd in Race 2
“After some disappointing results in Magny-Cours and
Brands Hatch we worked on the car a lot. Here I had a brilliant
start in the second race and at the beginning I was fast enough
to attack Jörg. I was not able to overtake him because
the tyres deteriorated. I’m happy and 2nd place is very
important to the team. The next race is at my home track but
I have actually never raced there before. I hope to have success
there as I had here.”
Rickard RYDELL – SEAT Sport Sverige, 3rd in
Race 1, 5th in Race 2
“The championship is so close I am very pleased to
have scored 10 points here today. Things could have gone better
for SEAT because we qualified 2nd, 3rd and 4th and I was the
only one who made it onto the podium. The starts are a big
problem for us so we have to do some work on that.”
Yvan MULLER – SEAT Sport France, 11th in Race
1, 8th in Race 2
“I have a mixture of feelings because I only scored
1 point but I am still in the championship lead. I had the
pace to finish 8th in Race 1 which would have equated to pole
in Race 2. However, the manner of Zanardi cost me this and
therefore a lot of points. I fear that at the end of the season
this loss of points will be a key factor and this is why I
am particularly upset.”
Tom CORONEL – GR Asia, 10th in Race 1, 12th
in Race 2
“I think my lead in the championship and my wins today
are partially a result of others making mistakes. Rangoni
got taken out which helped me a lot and other than that I
didn’t have much to do because I didn’t want to
battle with the people in front of me. I had a great front
row VIP seat to watch everyone ahead of me fighting!”
