BTCC GIVES SCHOOL “AWESOME” DAY OUT
Pupils from Comberbach Primary School in Cheshire were treated
to a very special behind-the-scenes tour of the Dunlop MSA
British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park on Friday
17 June.
More than 20 children aged between eight and ten and their
teachers accepted the invitation from the BTCC to meet with
some of the championship’s star drivers and teams. There
to greet them were Team Halfords’ Dan Eaves, Vauxhall’s
Yvan Muller, SEAT’s James Pickford, WSR’s Rob
Collard and HPI Racing with Friends Reunited’s Richard
Williams and Ian Curley.
The drivers gave the children tours of their pit garages,
a look around their cars and answered questions. They also
handed out stickers, posters, autographs and other team paraphernalia.
Vauxhall gave a high-speed wheel change demonstration while
SEAT showed how teams and drivers use radio communication
during races.
“We were delighted to welcome the children and teachers
from Comberbach school,” said BTCC Series Director Alan
Gow. “As Britain’s premier race series it is our
responsibility to enthuse youngsters about the excitement
of motor sport at a formative age. This is the first of a
number of initiatives we have planned with schools during
the season.”
Janet Groom, head teacher at Comberbach Primary School added:
“Everyone enjoyed the day. It was an awesome experience
for the children. The drivers were really patient, answered
all the questions and spent a lot of time talking to the children.
It was a brilliant opportunity. We now have a few budding
racing drivers!”
