Turismo Madrid becomes newest international sponsor of Davis Cup by BNP Paribas

The International Tennis Federation announced today that Turismo Madrid will become an international sponsor of Davis Cup by BNP Paribas. Turismo Madrid is the tourism arm of the region of Madrid with the aim to attract international visitors not only to its capital city, Madrid, but also to the many cultural, leisure and entertainment activities within the region itself.

The sponsorship, commencing with this year’s first round through 2010, was formally launched today in Madrid by the President of the Community of Madrid, Mrs. Esperanza Aguirre; the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Madrid, Mr. Santiago Fisas; and the ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti. Also present were the President of the Spanish Tennis Federation, Mr. Pedro Munoz, and three legends of Spanish tennis: Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Alex Corretja and Albert Costa. “We are delighted to welcome Turismo Madrid to the Davis Cup family of sponsors,” said Ricci Bitti. “We feel the international reach of Davis Cup by BNP Paribas is a perfect fit for the goals of Turismo Madrid. In 2009, as part of the centenary celebrations of the Spanish Tennis Federation, the ITF will be very proud to host its Annual General Meeting in Madrid.”

“The Davis Cup platform of more than 125 nations will provide Turismo Madrid with an excellent opportunity to convince millions of fans around the world to consider the region of Madrid for their holidays, for professional meetings and conferences,” said Mr Santiago Fisas, Minister of Culture and Tourism of Madrid.

Davis Cup by BNP Paribas is the largest, annual international team competition in sport with 127 nations entered in 2008. BNP Paribas has been the title sponsor of Davis Cup by BNP Paribas since 2002 and is joined by international sponsors Rolex, Hugo Boss, Kia Motors, NH Hoteles and Turismo Madrid. International partners of Davis Cup by BNP Paribas are Wilson Sporting Goods, NTT Communications and TTK.

The first round of 2008 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas will be played 8-10 February with the quarterfinals scheduled for 11- 13 April, semifinals 19-21 September and final 21-23 November. Team nominations for the first round will be published by the ITF later today.
