Turismo Madrid becomes newest international sponsor of Davis
Cup by BNP Paribas
The International Tennis Federation announced today that
Turismo Madrid will become an international sponsor of Davis
Cup by BNP Paribas. Turismo Madrid is the tourism arm of the
region of Madrid with the aim to attract international visitors
not only to its capital city, Madrid, but also to the many
cultural, leisure and entertainment activities within the
region itself.
The sponsorship, commencing with this year’s first
round through 2010, was formally launched today in Madrid
by the President of the Community of Madrid, Mrs. Esperanza
Aguirre; the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Madrid, Mr.
Santiago Fisas; and the ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti.
Also present were the President of the Spanish Tennis Federation,
Mr. Pedro Munoz, and three legends of Spanish tennis: Arantxa
Sanchez-Vicario, Alex Corretja and Albert Costa. “We
are delighted to welcome Turismo Madrid to the Davis Cup family
of sponsors,” said Ricci Bitti. “We feel the international
reach of Davis Cup by BNP Paribas is a perfect fit for the
goals of Turismo Madrid. In 2009, as part of the centenary
celebrations of the Spanish Tennis Federation, the ITF will
be very proud to host its Annual General Meeting in Madrid.”
“The Davis Cup platform of more than 125 nations will
provide Turismo Madrid with an excellent opportunity to convince
millions of fans around the world to consider the region of
Madrid for their holidays, for professional meetings and conferences,”
said Mr Santiago Fisas, Minister of Culture and Tourism of
Madrid.
Davis Cup by BNP Paribas is the largest, annual international
team competition in sport with 127 nations entered in 2008.
BNP Paribas has been the title sponsor of Davis Cup by BNP
Paribas since 2002 and is joined by international sponsors
Rolex, Hugo Boss, Kia Motors, NH Hoteles and Turismo Madrid.
International partners of Davis Cup by BNP Paribas are Wilson
Sporting Goods, NTT Communications and TTK.
The first round of 2008 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas will be
played 8-10 February with the quarterfinals scheduled for
11- 13 April, semifinals 19-21 September and final 21-23 November.
Team nominations for the first round will be published by
the ITF later today.
