2004 WINNER SVETLANA KUZNETSOVA RETURNS TO HASTINGS DIRECT
INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2004 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova from Russia has confirmed
she will play this year’s Hastings Direct International
Championships at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne. The world number
ten and former US Open Champion will join 28 of the world’s
leading players at this summer’s championships from
17th to 24th June 2006
Kuznetsova is the second top ten WTA player to be confirmed
in the line up at this year’s championships, and will
hope to improve on last year, where she was beaten by the
current champion Kim Clijsters in the semi final.
Svetlana said: “I always enjoy my week in Eastbourne,
it’s a nice tournament and I always have fun there.
It is very special, I think it is very good to have a week
like Eastbourne before a Grand Slam, it’s very tranquil
and I love to go to the beach. [The courts] are very good,
I think they are different and are always in very good condition.”
She added about her goals for 2006: “To play well in
Grand Slams and to play in the Masters, I am enjoying my game
so much and being on court. I’m looking forward to playing
every match and to do my best.”
Qualifying for this year’s event will take place between
Saturday 17th and Monday 19th of June 2006. The main draw
will be played between Monday 19th and Saturday 24th June
2006 at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne. Each day’s play
will commence at 11:30am
