Russian Star Myskina Returns to Hastings Direct International
Championships
Former French Open Champion and current world number 12 Anastasia
Myskina has announced that she will return to Eastbourne this
summer to play in the Hastings Direct International Championships
between 17 and 24 June (Box Office 01323 412 000). It will
be the Russian star’s sixth visit to Devonshire Park
and she will be hoping to go one better than in 2002 when
she lost in the final to American Chanda Rubin.
Anastasia began 2006 in tremendous form reaching the fourth
round at the Australian Open and the semi final in Tokyo.
Impressive displays in Indian Wells followed in March when
she reached the fourth round and made it through to the quarterfinals
at Miami. Recently the Russian number five won her fifth career
doubles title when she lifted the Warsaw trophy with fellow
compatriot Elena Likhovtseva.
Anastasia Myskina said: “Eastbourne is a great tournament,
a great facility. The public are unbelievable, they love the
tennis, it’s great to have a tournament there, and it
helps you to play your best before Wimbledon.”
She added: “The British crowd are really nice, they
support the players no matter which country and they just
love tennis. They know tennis so well they just enjoy watching
matches.”
Tournament Director Gavin Fletcher said: “It’s
fantastic to have someone of Myskina’s calibre at the
Hastings Direct International Championships. She has always
been a huge favourite with the British public and I have no
doubt that her presence here alongside the likes of Kim Clijsters
and Svetlana Kuznetsova will help to make the 2006 tournament
a hugely competitive and exciting week of tennis.”
Tickets are currently on sale for the Hastings Direct International
Championships which offers tennis fans a fantastic opportunity
to watch some of the world’s finest players. Qualifying
for this year’s event will take place between Saturday
17 and Monday 19 of June 2006. The main draw will be played
between Monday 19 and Saturday 24 June 2006 at Devonshire
Park, Eastbourne. Each day’s play will commence at 11:30am.
