BATES NAMES TEAM GB DAVIS CUP TEAM
Andy Murray, Alex Bogdanovic, Alan Mackin and Jamie Delgado
were today named in the Great Britain team for the forthcoming
Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Euro African Zone Group One tie against
Israel at Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park.
The tie will be the second home fixture this year for the
team, after April’s tie when Great Britain lost to Serbia
& Montenegro in Scotland. Victory over Israel will ensure
the team will remain in the Euro African Zone Group One.
Jeremy Bates, GB Davis Cup captain, said: “The team
I have selected has shown that they can win matches on this
surface and I know they are all excited at the chance to play.
Andy has had a great run at Wimbledon this year, reaching
the fourth round and I know he is eager to spearhead this
Great Britain team against Israel. With Greg’s unavailability
for this tie through injury it provides a fantastic opportunity
for some of the guys to represent their country and play at
this level. I am pleased to have Alex back in the team after
a very good year of results and a spirited performance against
Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon.”
He added: “This is an important tie for us to win,
so it will be an advantage to play in front of a supportive
home crowd down in Eastbourne.”
Great Britain last played Israel 16 months ago in Tel Aviv,
securing a 3-2 win. British number one Andy Murray made his
Davis Cup debut with David Sherwood and claimed victory over
the world class partnership of Andy Ram and Jonathan Irlich
in the crucial doubles rubber.
