Belgium, Italy top 2007 Fed Cup seedings
Belgium and Italy will top the seedings when the draw for
the 2007 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas is held at the 2006 Fed Cup
Final in Belgium on Friday 15 September. The two Fed Cup finalists
are automatically seeded No. 1 and No. 2 for the following
year’s competition, while the other seedings follow
the latest ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking. In the 2007 World
Group, the four seeds are Belgium (No. 1), Italy (No. 2),
Russia (No. 3) and France (No. 4). They will be drawn against
USA, Spain, China P.R. and Japan.
The four seeds for 2007 World Group II are Slovak Republic
(No. 1), Austria (No. 2), Canada (No. 3) and Germany (No.
4).
They will be drawn against Croatia, Czech Republic, Israel
and Australia.
Russia, the 2005 champion, retains its top position on the
new ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking following the latest round
of ties played over the weekend of 15-16 July. France remains
at No. 2, while 2006 finalists Belgium and Italy both climb
two places, to No. 3 and No. 4 respectively.
China, whose Play-off victory over Germany saw it qualify
for the World Group for the first time, rises six places to
No. 7.
