HANNspree Superbike World Championship kicks off
Australian
Troy Corser was the victor of today’s first Superpole
session of the 2008 HANNspree Superbike World Championship.
The Yamaha rider set a fastest lap of 1’58.053 –
more than 0.6 seconds ahead of closest rival Ruben Xaus. The
front row for tomorrow’s race was completed by Max Biaggi
and Max Neukirchner.
Carlos Checa was the fastest rider from the HANNspree-supported
teams. The HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider set the ninth fastest
time to secure a place at the head of row three. Team-mate
and 2007 World Supersport Champion Kenan Sofuoglu will start
from 14th, while the team newcomer Ryuichi Kiyonari was unable
to enter the Superpole session after finishing 20th in the
second qualifying session.
Italian Roberto Rolfo – who has moved to the HANNspree
Honda Althea team for this season – qualified in 15th
position and is looking forward to his second season in the
series. Rolfo hopes to draw on the experience he gained last
year for a more successful 2008.
The two Superbike races will be screened live on Eurosport
tomorrow.
