Korea’s Jeong Sang Eun Crowned as World’s
Best Junior Boy
The final day of the World Junior Table Tennis Championships
in Palo Alto, California, ended with a spectacular final of
the Boys’ Singles event. Jeong Sang Eun overcame with
four games to two China’s Xu Ruifeng. Thanks to fantastic
and numerous fans, the final day of the event in the United
States will remain an unforgettable memory for the players.
It was the successful revenge for Jeong, who lost in three
straight games in the Boys’ Team final against Xu. The
first two games were also won by Xu but Jeong did not give
up. “I had a good tension in the final and always believed
that I could win”, Jeong Sang Eun said at the press
conference after the final.
International Boys’ Podium
Xu Ruifeng was delighted about the number of spectators in
Palo Alto. “It is very unusual to have so many spectators
on a junior level.” Xu was the only Chinese on the podium.
Korea’s Jeong Sang Eun (winner) and the bronze medallists
Lee Sang Su (Korea) and Mikhail Paykov (Russia) were the other
boys winning a medal.
Girls’ and Doubles Event in Chinese Hands
In the morning session of the final day in Palo Alto, China’s
Wen Jia beat Amelie Solja from Germany. She lost however in
the final against her compatriot Yang Yang.
The Girls’ Doubles final was also dominated by the
Chinese. Li Xiaodan and Wen Jia beat Mu Zi and Yang Yang.
The bronze medals were awarded to Romania’s Elizabeta
Samara and Ioana Ghemes as well as to the Japanese Yuka Ishigaki
and Misako Wakamiya.
