DALEY TAKES SECOND MEDAL IN MADRID

Young Tom Daley has continued to show the world his true potential by claiming his second medal at the FINA Diving Grand Prix in Madrid.

The 13-year-old British athlete was competing against the world's best divers in the men's Platform individual and kept his nerve to claim the bronze medal.

China's Jia Hu and Liguang Yang have looked strong through this Grand Prix and today proved no different. The team-mates dominated the event from the first round scoring highly to position themselves in the top two places.

With the top two spots decided early on, Daley (Plymouth) and British team-mate Peter Waterfield (Southampton) were left to fight it out for the bronze medal. Daley showed his maturity by keeping up with the Chinese divers and even scored four perfect 10's in his first round.

When Waterfield dropped his back 2 ½ somersaults 2 ½ twists piked (5255B) the way was clear for Daley to step up and claim his second medal of the competition. He took to the boards and performed his back 3 ½ tuck (207C) excellently and scored highly to put the bronze medal out of his team-mates hands.

Daley claimed bronze with an impressive final score of 495.45. Silver was taken by Liguang Yang with 506.55 and Olympic champion Jia Hu took gold with 540.75.

The women's 3m Springboard synchro saw Britain's Hayley Sage and Tandi Gerrard looking to replicate their performance at the CAMO invitational meet in December with another international medal.

Sage (City of Sheffield) and Gerrard (City of Leeds) looked strong in the first two rounds where they lay within the medals. But they dropped marks in their reverse 2 ½ tuck (305C) to drop down to the fourth spot and the girls battled hard but just couldn't get back into the medal positions.

They finished in fourth place with a promising score of 270.84 points. Gold was taken by China's Ting Li and Qinxi Zhao with 296.40, silver was claimed by the Ukranian team of Olena Federova and Alevtyna Korolyova with 292.44 and bronze was won by Canada's Blythe Hartley and Melanie Rinaldi with 287.7
