TANCOCK POSTS NEW WORLD RECORD
Liam Tancock broke the world record for the 50m Backstroke
with his split time in the men's 200m Backstroke during this
evening's heats at the British Swimming Championships (50m).
Loughborough University's Liam Tancock powered out of the
blocks for the first 50m and gave himself a large lead over
Gregor Tait (City of Edinburgh).
Tancock touched the wall at 50m in a time of 24.47 seconds
breaking the current record by almost half a second.
"I haven't swam the 50m properly since Japan where I
tried to break the world record last summer but I definitely
achieved that this time and it feels great," Tancock
said. "I know it is not in the Olympic programme but
it gives me a lot of confidence to get that record, it gets
the place buzzing and it just feels amazing to swim that fast."
Commonwealth champion Tait touched just after Tancock at
the 50m mark and as the new world record holder fell away,
the City of Edinburgh swimmer took over the lead and showed
