SQUADS SELECTED FOR EUROPEAN JUNIOR EVENTS
British Swimming has unveiled a squad of 26 athletes set
to compete at this summer's European Junior Championships
in Antwerp.
And it contains some experienced swimmers in the likes of
Lizzie Simmonds (Lincoln Vulcans), who competed at the senior
World Championships earlier this year in Melbourne, and Ellen
Gandy (Beckenham), a winner of five European Youth Olympic
gold medals in 2005.
The team, under the guidance of Head Coach Bill Pilczuk (Swansea
Performance), is smaller than in recent years but will be
totally focused on maintaining Britain's impressive record
over the past few championships.
Last year from Spain the team returned with 15 medals, a
highest total by some margin for an overseas Championships,
of which six were gold, seven silver and two bronze. The five-day
event will get underway in Antwerp on 18th July.
British Swimming has also announced a team of three that
will compete at the European Junior Open Water Championships
in Milan in July. The team will be lead by Head Coach Sean
Kelly.
