BRITISH CONTINGENT HELPS LAND GPS CHAMPIONSHIP
British swimmer's at the Offshore Centre on Australia's Gold
Coast provided the winning impetus as their Southport School
(TSS) base contested the GPS Brisbane Championships this weekend.
It's the third time in four years that British Swimming's
young male contingent at TSS have helped the school to victory
in the hotly contested Brisbane meet.
TSS put daylight between themselves and closest rivals Nudgee
in the first 10 events and this was where the championships,
the biggest event on school calendar, were eventually won.
The British boys swam impressively despite heavy training
and secured two state records in both senior relays.
Head Coach Chris Nesbit was delighted with his athletes'
competitiveness at this stage of their season.
"The British guys had some great swims but it was the
school performances that won the championship," said
Nesbit.
"They all looked tired towards the end of their events
but this is to be expected at the moment as they're in training
to prepare for the British Championships in Manchester later
this month.
"The times were impressive as the championships don't
allow the usual race tactics of streamlined body suits and
shaving down. Despite this they looked good out there in what
was a very passionate environment.
TSS took the title with a score of 312, Nudgee scored 282.5
to take second and Gregory Terrace were third with 266.
