BRITAIN TAKE SILVER IN CLOSE EUROPEAN FINAL
Britain's women took the silver medal at the LEN European
B Water Polo Championships after they were narrowly beaten
by tournament favourites France in today's final.
But in making the final the British squad booked their place
in a qualification event for next year's European Championships
and is a testament to the improvements made within the squad
as they look to develop a competitive team for the 2012 London
Olympics.
In losing the final 6-2 to an experienced French team, Britain
succumbed to only their first loss of the tournament. In the
group stage they secured two victories and a 11-11 draw against
France before beating the Ukraine in the semi-final 9-6.
The team's impressive run of form at the championships in
Prague comes less than five months after the appointment of
women's head coach Szilveszter Fekete,.
Manchester Aquatic Centre will play host to the LEN Men's
European Nations Trophy next month when 12 squads from across
the continent battle it out for prestigious silverware as
well as a chance to qualify for the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
The eight-day event, featuring Britain's men, gets underway
on 8th July and is the latest major aquatic event to be staged
at the Oxford Road aquatics centre.
