FINAL DAY BRINGS OUT STRONG PERFORMANCES
The last day of the British Masters Championships and Senior
Age Group Championships saw impressive performances in the
pool.
The women's 400m freestyle event saw two British records
broken. In the 35-39 age group Deborah Magary from Blackpool
took her record in a time of 4:39.89.
"That was just amazing," she said. "I was
really not expecting that at all. I am really pleased. I claimed
the record in the 200m freestyle yesterday so it has been
a great weekend."
Trafford swimmer Jill Jones claimed the second record in
the 400m freestyle in a time of 5:13.39. Swimming in the 50-54
age group, Jones also claimed a British record in the 100m
butterfly finishing with a time of 1:14.24 seconds. She had
a successful weekend with two European and three British records
under her belt.
"It has been a fantastic weekend for me," she said.
"Today was another great performance and I am so pleased
with all of my records. Obviously yesterday was a highlight
for me but to have continued my success into today was great."
Totnes swimmer Simon Veale continued to show dominance in
his age group and claimed a new British record in the 400m
freestyle. Over the weekend he has broken three British and
one European record in the pool.
A new World record was broken in the 100m breaststroke event
with a fantastic swim from Cape Town member Timothy Shead
(55-59 age group). He completed his heat in a time of 1:14.67
seconds and smashed the record by almost a second.
"I am very excited by my new record," said Shead.
"I came here hoping to claim four records but unfortunately
my training was not as good as it could have been, so I missed
out on the other events. My aim for the year is to be ranked
top 10 in the world in my four events and my new record will
help me with this.
"This is a fabulous meet and so well organised, I have
competed in competitions across the world and this was one
of the best."
World record holder Amanda Heath showed strong form again
in the 50-54 age group in the 400m individual medley. Finishing
her heat in a time of 6:04.64 seconds to take her third British
record.
"This weekend has just been great," said Heath.
"I am so pleased with my record, obviously my World record
has been my highlight but I have performed well today too."
Spencer Swim Team finished the competition on a high with
a new European and British record claimed by the women in
the 200m freestyle team event in the over 200 age group.
