SYNCHRO DUO COMPETE AT SWISS OPEN
Britain's top synchronised swimmers will gain valuable experience
as they compete at the 32nd Swiss Open Championships which
kick off in Zurich tomorrow (19 July).
Commonwealth silver medallist Jenna Randall (Rushmoor) is
in action on the opening day in the solo free and technical
events before teaming up with Olivia Allison (also Rushmoor)
for the duet on Friday (20 July).
Strong synchro nations China, Japan and the USA are among
the 13 countries taking part in this four-day event.
Britain's duo has been following a gruelling eight-week training
programme to get to grips with a new routine as they continue
their development towards 2012.
National Performance Director Biz Price is pleased with the
progress they have made.
"This routine is of a much higher calibre than ever
before and the girls have really developed after an eight-week
training phase," explained Price. "Their aerobic
capacity is much better and they are getting more height out
of the water which will ultimately lead to higher points.
"Jenna and Olivia have performed at some major competitions
now and we have already seen the benefits of their international
experience.
"The Swiss open is one more competition to learn and
get results from in the run up to the Olympics. I will be
looking for the girls to finish in the top eight which will
show just how far we have come.
"As they compete at more and more international events
they will be exposed to a larger number of judges on the international
circuit which will stand them in good stead for the future."
