DIVING UNVEILS EUROPEAN JUNIOR SQUAD
British Diving has announced a squad of eight young divers
who will represent Great Britain at the European Junior Championships
in Italy later this month.
The event will be held in Trieste and, for many of the group,
it will provide the first taste of international competition.
It's the smallest team we've sent to a European Junior Championships
for some time now but it's a team that holds the real possibility
of medals with two former junior medallists in Callum Johnstone
and Charles Calvert competing in their second Europeans.
Junior Olympic Programme Manager for British Diving Kim White
will be following the team in Trieste.
"Some of Britain's brightest junior talents will be
missing because they're currently working with the senior
set-up and we also have a couple of injuries but Trieste will
provide a good opportunity to some of our other athletes to
test themselves in an international environment," said
White.
"Chris Mears is an exciting prospect and will be competing
off all three boards (1m, 3m and 10m). It's his first European
event so it will be good to see how he does."
Many of the divers will be in action this weekend at the
ASA Nationals in Sheffield as the nation's top divers converge
for national honours. The event at Ponds Forge runs from Friday
6th to Sunday 8th July.
