BOCHMANN STEALS THE SHOW
Anne Bochmann (UEA Norwich) put in the performance of the
day to claim the age group record twice in the girls 13 year
old 400m Individual Medley.
The diabetic swimmer showed she is not disadvantaged by her
condition - she won her heat comfortably and went out hard
in the final to win with a time of 4:51.18 seconds
With silver going to East Kilbride's Corrie Scott in 5:05.80
and bronze to Ann Morris (Derventio) in 5:07.45.
Despite her gruelling three race session she went on to win
gold in the 200m Freestyle with 2:06.08 seconds and took fourth
place in the 100m Backstroke final in 1:08.78.
"I was really pleased with today," Bochmann said.
"It was unexpected to claim two age group records in
the 400m IM. I was feeling really good with my preparation,
I gained some good times in training and it was just great
to win my gold."
Bochmann's coach Dave Calella was thrilled with her performance
throughout the day and is pleased with her improvement.
"She did a really good job today," he said. "More
than we could have asked for. We have seen massive improvements
through the past year.
"We did have a difficult time for the first six weeks
of her training but she has really come on and she has never
left her condition cause her any problems and that is really
admirable."
Matthew Johnson (City of Leeds) dominated the 12 year old
age group with a hat-trick of gold medals.
Johnson started the day with gold in the 1,500m finishing
in 17:11.21 seconds, 8 seconds ahead of Joseph Poynter (Bournemouth
Dolphins) and Southend's Harry Payne who finished in 17:17.26.
In the 200m Butterfly he took his second gold with a large
lead over Joseph Schooling (Gallica). Johnson finished in
2:16.89 seconds, with Schooling finishing in 2:22.55.
Bronze went to Ryan Flanagan (Borough of Kirklees) in 2:25.25.
The Leeds swimmer completed his hat-trick in the 100m Breaststroke
finishing with a time of 1:15.28, ahead of Bradley Kemp (Hants
North). He claimed silver with 1:15.93. James Robinson finished
in third place with a time of 1:17.17.
The closest competitions of the day came in the boys 14 year
old 200m Butterfly final and the girls 12 year old 100m Backstroke
final.
The boys event saw Myles Crouch-Anderson (Northampton) and
Cameron Brodie (Kelly College) battling it out to touch first.
The Northampton swimmer took the title just ahead of Brodie
in a time of 2:09.02 seconds. Brodie touched in 2:09.06.
Bronze went to Adam Barrett, who swims for Reading, in a
time of 2:11.87.
The Backstroke final saw Derventio's Fiona Donnelly and St
Felix School's Elis Jackson fighting hard to claim the Age
Group title.
In the final 50m saw the girls swimming neck and neck but
with the last 5m Donnelly took the lead and claimed the title
in 1:07.22 seconds, with Jackson finishing in 1:07.36.
Bolton Metro's Emma Saunders claimed bronze in 1:08.61 seconds.
The girls 13 year old Backstroke final saw Sophie Teasdale
(Portsmouth Northsea) put in a strong performance to claim
her first gold of the competition in a time of 1:05.93 seconds.
She finished ahead of Gallica's Rebecca Fausset in 1:08.55
seconds. Bronze went to Bethan Davis (Bridgend City) in 1:08.71
seconds.
She also claimed her second medal of the day - silver in
the 200m Freestyle.
