AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS HIT SHEFFIELD
The country's top junior swimmers will be competing to be
best in their age group at the ASA National Age Group Championships
taking place in Sheffield next week.
Ponds Forge International Sports Centre is to host the four-day
competition which takes place from 23rd-26th July and will
see up to 700 junior swimmers taking part in the championships
which mark an important part of their competitive development
on the road to future success.
The next generation of British swimmers will be hoping to
prove they have what it takes to become a future Olympic athlete
as they aim to swim fast times to move up the British rankings.
British Swimming Director of World Class Programmes John
Atkinson emphasises the importance of these championships,
which allow athletes to experience top competition.
"The Age Group Championships are a great format because
it allows swimmers to swim heats and finals," he said.
"They also allow club squads to prepare relay teams and
swim competitively.
"We will be looking for swimmers to come through this
championship and progress forward to youth swimming. The system
in place in Britain has helped a large number of swimmers
to come through over the years and now we will be looking
for the next crop of talent to emerge and hopefully this meet
will identify them."
