BRITAIN'S DIVERS IN THE MEDALS AGAIN DOWN UNDER
Great Britain's divers won their second medal in as many
days at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney when
Jodie McGroarty and Elizabeth Heald combined in the Women's
3m Synchro to take bronze.
The Sheffield-based divers performed well against tough opposition
and narrowly missed out on the silver.
China, who dominated in the diving pit on day two, took gold
with Chen Wen and Wang Wei scoring 295.02, Australian pair
Rhiannan Iffland and Olivia Wright won the silver in 265.17
and Britain were just behind with 264.84.
In the Men's 10m Platform China dived to a clean sweep of
the medals but Britain's brave Thomas Daley, just 12-year-old,
did remarkably well to dive through the pain of an injured
hand to take fourth spot
The Plymouth youngster has been protecting his injury but
after a late fitness test was cleared to dive. He scored 544.50
when 570.80 was needed to get into the medals.
British team mate Callum Johnstone (City of Leeds) finished
fifth off the tower with 532.55.
The divers form part of a 113-strong British Olympic Association
(BOA) team comprising athletes from twelve different sports.
Diving is the only aquatic sport in the multi-discipline competition,
which includes hockey, rowing and figure skating among others.
