BRITISH SWIMMING WELCOMES NEW ANTI-DOPING INITIATIVE
British Swimming has welcomed UK Sport recommendations to
modernise the nation's approach to anti-doping by creating
an independent National Anti-Doping Organisation (NADO).
David Sparkes, Chief Executive of British Swimming, is backing
the initiative which he feels is a very positive move in the
fight against drugs in sport.
"British Swimming welcomes this initiative," said
Sparkes. "It moves UK doping control very much into the
21st Century and we feel confident that, with the expertise
currently in place combined with a clearer focus, we will
become one of the leading anti-doping agencies in the world.
"It's been a long-held view that this was sorely needed
in order to fight the challenge of establishing drug-free
sport. With 2012 on the horizon this will be even more important
and it a huge step in the right direction.
"The implementation of a new, independent anti-doping
agency will also allow UK Sport to focus its energies entirely
on achieving the best possible result at the London 2012 Olympics."
