MEW ADDS BRONZE TO BRITAIN'S GAMES TALLY
Darren Mew closed the swimming account on day six of the
World University Games with bronze in the 50m Breaststroke.
The University of Bath swimmer clocked his fastest time of
the year in a tight finish behind world record holder Oleg
Lisogor (Ukraine) and Felipe Ferreira Lima of Brazil. Mew
secured joint bronze in 27.95 seconds alongside Valerii Dymo
of the Ukraine, Lisogor won gold in 27.74 and Lima won silver
in 27.94.
City of Coventry's Terri Dunning was just outside a podium
finish with fourth place in the 200m Butterfly. In a fast
race that saw Canada's Audrey Lacroix set a Games Record of
2:06.83, Dunning was just off the pace to touch in 2:10.60.
There was disappointment in the final event of the meet as
Britain's men's 4x100m Medley team was disqualified. After
qualifying second fastest into the final with a time of 3:39.24
the Brits were disqualified along with Germany who were fastest
after this morning's heats.
Britain's swimmers leave Bangkok with one silver and two
bronze medals in the pool, while the British team's tally
stands at nine - one gold, three silver and five bronze medals.
In diving, Britain's Gary Hunt made the semi finals of the
10m Platform but was unable to progress to the finals after
finishing 16th with 375.20 points and the British men's water
polo team lost by an agonising point, 6-5, to Australia in
the top eight knockout and now face Turkey in the 9th-12th
place play-offs.
Water Polo Result:
Australia v Great Britain, 6:5 (2:0, 1:2, 3:2, 0:1)
