DOUBLE GOLD FOR BRITS IN PARIS
Rebecca Adlington and James Goddard claimed a gold apiece
at last week's Paris Open in France.
Nova Centurion's Adlington took the honours in the 800m Freestyle
in a time of 8:29.21. The 18-year-old kept off a strong challenge
from Spain's Erika Villaecija Garcia to touch just three-hundredths
of a second ahead for gold. Sophie Huber of France won bronze
in 8:33.45 and British team-mate Cassie Patten (Stockport
Metro) finished fifth in 8:40.20.
Goddard finished top in the 200m Individual Medley, clocking
a time of 2:00.90. The Loughborough University swimmer took
the lead on the second length and managed to pull ahead of
the group. Lukasz Wojt of Poland won silver in 2:01.62 and
Hungary's Tamas Kerekjarto claimed bronze in 2:01.70.
Derwentside's Joanne Jackson swam a lifetime best for bronze
in the 400m Freestyle. The 20-year-old was just outside the
British record with a time of 4:07.24. Federica Pellegrini
of Italy won gold in 4:05.20 and Poland's Otylia Jedrzejczak
took silver in 4:07.24. Britain's Keri-Anne Payne was also
within her lifetime best and finished sixth in 4:13.34.
