NEW BRITISH OLYMPIC DIRECTOR FACES CHALLENGE
British Swimming Chief Executive David Sparkes has described
the new role Sir Clive Woodward will play as the British Olympic
Association ' s (BOA) Director of Elite Performance as "
challenging " .
The BOA unveiled the former head coach of the England Rugby
World Cup winning squad yesterday and he has been tasked with
contributing to success at the Olympics in Bejing 2008 and
London 2012.
The challenge he faces is to add value to what we are doing
in swimming, open water, diving, synchronised swimming and
water polo while ensuring there ' s seamless support to our
programmes, athletes and coaches from the BOA and UK Sport,
" said Sparkes.
This is an interesting appointment and while I am sure Sir
Clive will bring unique experiences from his work within both
rugby and football, this is going to be quite a challenging
role. "
Performance in British Swimming is directed by the leadership
we have from the likes of Bill Sweetenham (swimming) and Steve
Foley (diving) but we envisageSir Clive adding value to this
by augmenting the good work that is already taking place.
Sir Clive ' s role will be to provide support and services
to the 35 Olympic sports, and to assist their aspirations
for Olympic success.
