SYNCHRONISED SWIMMERS VIE FOR WORLD HONOURS
A team of Britain's brightest synchronised swimming prospects
will continue their preparations towards the London 2012 Olympics
when they take part in the World Junior Synchronised Swimming
Championships in China.
The FINA championships in Foshan, Guangdong will see 11 of
the most promising synchronised swimming talents in Britain
competing against nations such as China, Canada and the U.S.
Competition starts on Saturday (7th October) with the first
rounds of the Duet and over the next five days athletes will
also compete for Solo, Team and Free combination honours.
Britain's squad of 11, lead by Head Coach and former Commonwealth
medallist Gayle Adamson of Gateshead, goes into the competition
off the back of a demanding training camp in Macau, China
where they spent 10 days refining their routines.
The squad includes Commonwealth Games solo silver medallist
Jenna Randall of Rushmoor and duet partner Olivia Allison,
also of Rushmoor, who go to China following an intensive training
camp in Canada.
National Performance Director Adele Carlsen is looking forward
to seeing the British contingent compete against some of the
world's strongest synchronised swimming nations.
"There are two priorities for us at these World Championships,"
said Carlsen. "We'll be looking closely at the performance
of the Duet and Jenna and Olivia have been training in Canada
for the past six weeks working on that.
"The performance of the team will also be interesting.
It's a development meet for the team as it's the first time
we've put together a team for many years.
"We're looking at nurturing these athletes and competitions
like this are ideal as they begin their journey on the road
to London 2012."
