WORLD JUNIOR SQUAD TAKE POSITIVES FROM CHAMPIONSHIPS
A young British synchronised swimming squad that competed
at their first World Junior Synchro Championships in China
can take many positives in the lead up to their London 2012
target.
The squad of 11 took to the world stage with the target of
reaching the finals in their respective events after successful
training camps in preparation for the championships.
Commonwealth silver medallist Jenna Randall (Rushmoor) can
take pride from her 14th place finish in the solo event in
what proved to be a strong field. Her score of 76.435 left
her agonisingly close to a place in the final, narrowly missing
out.
Randall, alongside partner Olivia Allison (Rushmoor) made
the final of the duet event, finishing in 12th place with
a score of 77.080. The duet combination was expected provide
the squad with their strongest result, and this proved to
be.
Randall and Allison have been able to concentrate perfecting
their routines and adding to what is already proving to be
strong pairing due to a training camp in Canada specifically
tailored to their needs.
The team event provided an opportunity for the remaining
squad members to show what they are capable of without Randall
or Allison as part of the routine.
Finishing in 13th place, the girls can take many positives
from their performance. It is a squad based on development
rather than medals at the moment and their continual progress
means the future for synchro is bright.
National Performance Director, Adele Carlsen was pleased
with the results the squad achieved in China.
"This was a successful meet for the British squad. Going
into the meet, our aim was to make the finals in each event,
and although this was not the case the performances were promising,"
said Carlsen.
"All the girl's benefited from specific training camps
and improvements are being made all the time. We expected
the duet event to be our strongest, and the strength of Jenna
and Olivia's pairing is getting better all the time.
"There are areas, such as figures, that we all recognise
need to be strengthened. We will continue to work on these
but the future looks good."
