WORLD SQUAD MAKES FINAL PREPARATIONS
British Swimming's IPC World Championship squad has entered
its final phase of preparation ahead of the six-day disability
meet which kicks off in Durban this Saturday.
The 33-strong team arrived in South Africa last Tuesday and
swimmers have been making the most of the past seven days
to recover from the lengthy journey and acclimatise to the
weather, venue and change of culture.
First class preparation ahead of the camp ensured British
Swimming secured exclusive use of the best quality training
facility in the area - a 10-lane, 50m outdoor pool at Crawford
School, where each athlete has followed an individual programme
to ensure they have the best possible run-up to the Championships.
A team of 17 support staff, including coaches, biomechanists
and medical staff, has enhanced the preparations and have
an important role to play to ensure success in Durban.
The squad has now entered its final pre-competition phase
and swimmers will have their first glimpse of foreign competitors
as they train alongside other nations in the last few days
before the Championships.
Performance Director Tim Reddish believes his team is ready
for action at the biggest competition in disability sport
outside the Paralympic Games.
"Some athletes are now in their final race preparation
phase with just four days to go until their number one event,
while others are still 10 days away from their big race,"
explained Reddish.
"By securing the best pool in the area our athletes
have enjoyed a week of quality training and are focused as
we move into the final stage of preparation.
"We're ready to go as a team of staff and athletes.
The staff have worked to the best of their ability to support
the athletes and ensure they have the best chance of performing
at their highest level."
