50th CENTRE JOINS FORCES WITH THE ASA
Mid-Devon District Council has become the 50th centre to
join forces with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) by
signing an Official Partnership Agreement to improve its swimming
provision.
The ASA has been working in partnership with leisure centres
and councils across the country for many years and introduced
the formalised agreement and support package just three years
ago.
In reaching the landmark figure of 50 agreements, the ASA
has again proven its commitment to supporting and improving
the standards of swimming lessons across the country.
Mid-Devon District Council has become the latest centre to
sign a five-year partnership agreement with the national governing
body for swimming and will implement the ASA's National Plan
for Teaching Swimming later this month.
By signing up to use the National Plan, a template for learn
to swim schemes, the council will be using the quality framework,
already the preferred choice of over 800 pools, in conjunction
with the very successful Kellogg's ASA Awards Scheme.
Up to 2,000 people currently access the swimming lessons
at Exe Valley and Lords Meadow Leisure Centres, and strong
links with Tiverton Swimming club creates a pathway for people
who want to progress to competitive swimming. The centres
also provide comprehensive adult and disability learn to swim
programmes.
As part of the deal, the ASA will work with the centres to
provide support while they work towards the Aquamark accreditation
- the ASA's quality seal of approval for learn to swim providers.
Exe Valley Leisure Centre Lesson Co-ordinator, Martin Palk
relishes the idea of the partnership with the ASA.
"It is a real honour to be the 50th centre to join forces
with the ASA," he said.
"We are looking forward to working alongside the ASA,
the guidance and support we will receive will be invaluable
for the development of our swim programmes."
In celebrating the milestone of 50 partnership agreements,
ASA Commercial Director Katie Brazier said: "We are delighted
to welcome Mid-Devon to our growing family of official partners
and our Business Team will be working hard to support their
needs going forward.
"We introduced the Team just three years ago to help
pool operators increase their participation and revenue figures
through the implementation of ASA programmes, products and
services while complementing the work of our swimming development
officers.
"Signing our 50th agreement shows we are delivering
just the type of partnership that our customers are looking
for and we look forward to a very beneficial relationship
with Mid-Devon."
