RANDALL SECOND AT SYNCHRO HALFWAY MARK
England's Jenna Randall put in a strong performance in synchronised
swimming today, finishing at the end of day one in second
position after the solo technical routine.
Tomorrow she will undertake the solo freestyle routine in
an attempt to win a medal for England.
This is the first major meet for the 18 year old from Camberley,
who outshone the more experienced swimmers at the Melbourne
Sports & Aquatics Centre.
Afterwards she said, "I really enjoyed it out there today.
The atmosphere was just amazing. I could hear my parents and
my club in the crowds.
"This puts us in a great position for a medal tomorrow
with my favourite free routine still to go".
Commenting, coach Adele Carlsen said, "Jenna did very
well out there. I'd hoped she may have got a bit further ahead
on points from the Australian sitting in third, but she'll
be strong tomorrow in the free routine.
"She isn't even a senior yet and perhaps needs more depth
to her solo but her elements today were great and gave her
some high 8 scores."
In the duet technical routine, Randall with partner Olivia
Allison, from St Albans, finished the day in third position.
"The crowd really lifts you, we just don't have that
at home and it's an amazing feeling," said Randall. "I'm
very excited about tomorrow, the free is our strength."
Carlsen is hopeful of the duet's medal chances tomorrow:
"Considering the duet has only been together for two
months it was very good," she said. "The last third
came apart slightly, but I'm confident that with the free
routine they will be up there.
"It's going to be very close tomorrow between fourth
and silver, and will be a good show".
Both the solo freestyle routine and the duet freestyle routine
take place tomorrow (Sunday) to decided the medals.
