PARRY PARTNERS ASA TO INSPIRE YOUNG SWIMMERS
Steve Parry and the ASA are spearheading an initiative to
inspire and motivate Britain's future swim stars.
Total Swimming, the brainchild of Parry and fellow Olympian
Adrian Turner, has joined up with the ASA's Training and Development
team to offer swimming roadshows to clubs across the country.
As the ASA's official training partner focussing on young
swimmers and their parents, Total Swimming hopes to deliver
up to 100 sessions a year to clubs across the country.
Offering roadshows at three different levels, Total Swimming
can tailor sessions to clubs' individual needs from a two-hour
session to a two-day event.
At the top level, clubs will welcome Parry's Aquatic Crusaders
to their pool and as well as receiving motivation and advice,
participants will benefit from mementos from the session,
freebies, educational material and the chance to meet and
spend time with one of the country's top swimmers.
Alternatively, clubs can invite an apprentice or a mentor
to deliver a roadshow. Apprentices are current British squad
members and can provide an insight into swimming at the highest
level as well as give inspiration to up and coming swimmers,
while mentors include some of Britain's top major games medallists
such as Nick Gillingham, Jamie Salter and Clare Huddart.
Total Swimming founder Steve Parry explains the ethos behind
this new initiative:
"We set up Total Swimming because we felt athletes should
take the responsibility of inspiring the next generation of
swimmers," he said. "We have a large group of swimmers
involved and they are really excited about this new project
and getting out into the clubs.
"We want to put the fun back into the sport and get
the kids on board enjoying their sport and looking ahead to
London 2012.
"It's great to be in partnership with ASA Training and
Development in delivering this pioneering initiative."
