WOOD LEADS LEN CUP TEAM TO FRANCE
A squad of six British open water swimmers will travel to
France this week to take part in the next round of the LEN
European Cup series.
The mixed team of youth and experience will compete over
10km against the rest of Europe just a week after they hosted
round two of the series in London over 10km.
Experienced Paula Wood (Ealing) and David Proud (Durham Aquatics)
join the likes of Charlotte Creager (Barnet Copthall), Jamie
Forrest (City of Glasgow), Matthew Vyse (Hatfield) and Pippa
Davies (Swim Swansea) in making up the squad.
The Vassiviere event is the third leg of five and will provide
ideal experience for the likes of Vyse who finished second
in the 3km British Junior Open last weekend in London.
For Wood it will provide another opportunity to test herself
once again internationally after she returned from retirement
earlier this year. She finished the London leg of the event
in fifth while Proud and Forrest completed the men's course
in sixth and eighth respectively.
The swimmers will be guided by Head Coach Paul Hogg of Newburn
SC, Newcastle and he is looking forward to seeing the squad
in action.
"After the results the swimmers enjoyed last weekend
in London, they'll be going to France with a lot of confidence.
"We're going to see the experience of the likes of Wood
and the energy of the younger ones who are just learning the
ropes so it should be a perfect mix for the team."
