BRITAIN'S BEST YOUNGSTERS CONTEST HONOURS
The Cheestrings ASA National Age Group Swimming Championships
get underway on Thursday when over 700 of Britain's most promising
youngsters gather in Sheffield with national honours at stake.
Potential 2012 Olympians, aged 11 to 14, will compete over
four days for national titles at Ponds Forge, home of the
city's 50m pool.
The Cheestrings ASA National Age Group Championships are
the main point of the summer season for Age Group swimmers
and athletes earmarked as Olympians of the future will be
in action.
It follows a very successful European Junior Championships
in Spain earlier this month where many of last year's Age
Group swimmers delivered a best ever performance for Britain
away from home.
And now the next generation will be expected to use The Cheestrings
ASA National Age Group Championships to reveal themselves
as the future of the sport in this country.
As well as national titles, swimmers will also be able to
gain qualification to the English Talent Development Programme.
This is responsible for identifying, nurturing and developing
talent for tomorrow's Olympics.
The Cheestrings ASA National Age Group Championships will
lead into the ASA National and Youth Championships to run
in Sheffield from 1st to 6th August.
