RANDALL LEARNS LESSONS FROM SENIOR SYNCHRO CHAMPS
Junior British synchro swimmer Jenna Randall (Rushmoor) has
finished twelfth in the solo final of the European Championships.
The 17-year-old, who won silver at this year's Commonwealth
Games, was up against the best in Europe, including World
Championship medallists Natalia Ishchenko (Russia) and Gemma
Mengual (Spain).
At her first really competitive senior event, Randall was
unable to improve on her rank going into the final and finished
12th with 83.000 points. The competition was won by Ishchenko
who scored an almost perfect 98.400 points.
Randall was delighted to make the final, but had hoped to
improve on her rank.
"My aim was to come here and reach the finals,"
she said. "I did well to get there and I improved on
my preliminary performance which is pleasing, although I was
hoping to move up from 12th place in the final.
"I've learnt a lot from this competition. I now need
to go home and work on my performance in terms of expression
and confidence, as that is what sets the top swimmers apart,
and I also need to improve on my strength and extension.
"The Commonwealths was great and we competed against
Canada who are really strong in synchro, but here we're up
against the best in the world. To compete against and train
with top swimmers, such as Gemma Mangual of Spain has been
really inspiring."
In the duet where Randall partnered Rushmoor club mate Olivia
Allison, the pair were agonisingly close to a spot in the
final twelve when they finished in 13th position with 81.400
points.
They will now return home to prepare for the Junior World
Championships, which take place in China later this year.
