WILLMOTT SETS NEW 400IM RECORD IN THE 13YRS AGE GROUP
Aimee WILLOTT (Middlesborough) set a new 13yrs age group
record of 4:55.17 in the Girls 400m IM, as she won her third
gold medals on day three of the Cheestrings ASA National Age
Group Championships. Although Lauren CHAPPLE (Barnet Copt)
turned first at the end of the butterfly leg, she couldn't
maintain the lead as Willmott soon took command. Chapple took
silver in 5:04.23 and Grainne MURPHY (Swim Ireland) won the
bronze in 5:06.65.
Willmott took a second medal in the Girls 13 Yrs 100m Backstroke
in what was the closest race of the night. There was just
0.01 between her and Kathryn WILLIS (Rushmoor Royals) at the
turn but it was Willis who was crowned Champion in 1:06.62
just 0.03 ahead of Willmott who took the silver in 1:06.65.
Sophie HOOKHAM (St Ives) finish in 1:08.19 to claim the bronze.
Two girls completed the freestyle double tonight. In the 12
Yrs category Sophie WARD (Gallica SC) followed her 100m freestyle
gold on day 2 with the 200m Freestyle today in a time of 2:08.92.
Sian MORGAN (Co Bradford) and Jessica THIELMANN (Newburn)
touched in 2:09.52 and 2:11.88 taking silver and bronze.
Rebecca TURNER (Co Sheffield) completed her double in the
13 Yrs 200m Freestyle adding to her 100m freestyle title.
A winning time of 2:06.14 was an impressive finish ahead of
a much closer battle for silver and bronze. Emma GRAHAM (Co
Leeds) took another freestyle silver in 2:09.10 whilst Lucy
ELLIS (Dunedin ST) had to settle for bronze in 2:09.99.
In the Girls 11 Yrs 400m IM Ellis JACKSON (St Felix Sch)
won her fourth gold medal of the meet with a convincing win
recording 5:12.46. Mollie VINCENT (Portsmouth N) touched in
5:16.69 winning silver and Fiona DONNELLY (Derventio) in 5:20.94
to claim the bronze.
Anne BOCHMANN (UEA Norwich) added to her gold medal tally
with her second in the Girls 12 Yrs 400m IM as she was clearly
ahead of the field with a time of 5:07.25. Taking the silver
in 5:10.12 was Jessica THIELMANN (Newburn) after a close finish
with Holly BRETTLE (Middlesborough) won earned bronze after
recording 5:11.97.
The 11yrs category also saw Fiona DONNELLY (Derventio) add
to her gold medal count with a 1:10.46 in the Girls 100m Backstroke
ahead of Ambah SIMPSON (Stockport Metro) and Enya BOOTH (Donc
Dartes). The race produced another close finished and it wasn't
possible to see who had taken the silver until the scoreboard
confirmed Simpson's 1:11.22 and Booth's 1:11.56
Sophie SMITH (Co Leicester) added to her two bronze medals
with a gold this time in the Girls 11 Yrs 200m Freestyle.
With a time of 2:14.82 she led from the start with Katie COOPER
(Co Manchester Aquatics) moving from third at the 100m turn
to snatch silver in 2:16.43 and push Ellis JACKSON (St Felix
Sch) into bronze with a time of 2:17.50
In the Girls 12 Yrs 100m Backstroke Holly RALFE (Co Canterbury)
was enable to convert her number one rank going into the final
and had to settle for silver after a determined swim from
Sophie TEASDALE (Fareham N'ds) brought her the gold in 1:07.83
ahead of Ralfe's 1:07.94. A time of 1:09.15 meant a bronze
for Bethany MOORE (Derventio).
Triple medallist from day two, Matthew JOHNSON (Co Leeds)
made it four gold with the Boys 11 Yrs 200m Butterfly. A commanding
lead at the 100m mark was maintained to touch in 2:28.76.
Ryan FLANAGAN (Bo Kirklees) won silver in 2:34.00 and Luke
WOOLSTENCROFT (Stockport Metro) won bronze in 2:35.61.
In his next race the Boys 11 Yrs 100m Breaststroke, FLANAGAN
swapped his silver for a gold. Bradley KEMP (Hants North)
was close to denying him but just couldn't beat Flannigan's
1:22.02 when he finished in 1:22.13. Benjamin STOKES (Bracknell)
was close behind in a time of 1:22.43 taking a bronze.
Gallica's swimmers continued their good form as Jordan THEAKER
won a second gold in 2:23.35 to take the top prize in the
Boys 12 Yrs 200m Butterfly, steadily growing his lead over
the race. Andrew BURNS (York City) came home in silver with
2:26.06 and 2:28.68 gave Daniel JOHNSON (Middlesborough) the
bronze.
Turning first going into the last 50m Myles CROUCH-ANDERSON
(Northampton) just couldn't be caught as he won gold in the
Boys 13 Yrs 200m Butterfly in 2:16.60. A fight for the silver
saw Matthew BUTT (Guernsey) come out on top as he touched
in 2:19.09 just in front of Steven KING (Bracknell) who won
the bronze in 2:19.21.
Borough of Stockton, known for producing female age group
butterfly champions, delivered a gold with Andrew WINSPEAR
in the Boys 14 Yrs 200m Butterfly. His time of 2:12.38 was
enough to keep Grant CHANDLER (Romford Town) at bay. Chandler
took silver in 2:12.98 just ahead of home pool swimmer Braxston
TIMM (Co Sheffield) who claimed bronze in 2:13.23
In the boys 12 Yrs 100m Breaststroke it was the same three
medallists as in the 200m but not in the same order. Sam GEORGE
(South Aberdeen) who finished in 1:15.34 took the double with
gold but Craig BENSON (Livingston) this time got the better
of Aaron LYNCH (Stowmarket) as they finished in 1:16.30 and
1:16.45 for silver and bronze respectively.
The Boys 13 Yrs 100m Breaststroke saw another double breaststroke
medallist asTimothy ALMOND (Warrington W) won the gold in
1:10.57. Owen THOMAS (Co Cardiff) took silver in 1:12.60 and
Kyle BOYEK (Wear Valley) bronze in 1:12.75.
It was the same story in the Boys 14 Yrs 100m Breaststroke
as this time it was Grant SAGE (Thornbury) who did the double.
Finishing in 1:08.83 ahead of Lewis COLEMAN (Ipswich) who
just couldn't quite catch him. Coleman finished in 1:09.45
giving him the silver. Having come fourth in the 200m breaststroke,
Christopher DIXON (Co Newcastle) made the podium this time
as he took the bronze in 1:10.67.
On the medal table Gallica are top with 6 gold, 4 silver
and 2 bronze. City of Leeds just behind with 6 gold, 3 silver
and 2 bronze and in third spot Newburn with 4 gold, 3 silver
and 6 bronze.
