MARSHALL SHOWS SPEED TO TAKE GOLD IN SWEDEN
Britain's swimmers announced their arrival at the FINA World
Cup series when they won two gold, a silver and three bronze
medals on day one of the Stockholm leg.
Mel Marshall was just outside her own British Record when
she won gold in the Women's 200m Freestyle.
The Loughborough University swimmer touched first in 1:55.43
ahead of American Rachel Komisarz in 1:56.37 and Josefin Lillhage
of Sweden was third in 1:57.20.
"It's a long time since I've been that fast in a 25m
pool," said a delighted Marshall. "I've just come
off a training camp without resting as well so it's good to
be quick.
"I felt good tonight, I took the race to the others
and kept it on. My aim here was to see where I'm at in my
preparation for the Commonwealth Games and to just enjoy it.
"The time was a bit of a surprise to be honest, I didn't
think I'd go that quick but I have to remember that I'm still
some way off world record pace and that's ideally where I
need to be."
City of Edinburgh swimmer Kris Gilchrist took one of the
closest finals of the night when he snatched gold in the Men's
200m Breaststroke in a new personal best time.
Gilchrist finished in 2:08.74 just ahead of Russia's Grigory
Falko in 2:08.76 while Hugues Duboscq of France was third
in 2:09.91.

Record on her way to winning silver in the Women's 100m Breaststroke.

record of 1:06.99, behind Tara Kirk of the U.S. in 1:05.53
and ahead of team mate Kirsty Balfour (City of Edinburgh)
who won the bronze in a new Scottish Record of 1:07.19.
The Men's 50m Breaststroke final comprised a world class
field and it was the inform Oleg Lisogor of the Ukraine who
took gold in 26.84 ahead of Frenchman Hugues Duboscq in 27.44
and Britain's James Gibson (Loughborough University) was third
in 27.51. Chris Cooke (City of Newcastle) finished fourth
in 27.73.
