BRITISH SWIMMING STATEMENT
It is business as usual for National Performance Director
Bill Sweetenham who remains committed to lead British Swimming
to the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Following an independent investigation into allegations of
bullying against Mr Sweetenham, which were found to be unproven,
he has met with British Swimming Chief Executive David Sparkes
and Board member Robert James to review the report's findings
and discuss a number of issues it raised.
"We've had a very positive meeting today," admitted
Sparkes. "And Bill has confirmed that he is totally committed
to leading the British team to Beijing in 2008.
"We agreed, in hindsight, that some of the issues highlighted
in the report could have been handled better. But at the end
of the day Bill has affected a massive change in our sport
and it's inevitable that not everything will run smoothly.
"British Swimming, team staff, and the vast majority
of Britain's swimmers remain committed to Bill and are looking
forward to more success than they've already achieved as they
continue on the road to Beijing."
