AUSSIES CELEBRATE HOLIDAY WITH WINS OVER ENGLAND
The Aussies celebrated Australia Day with two wins against
England on day five of the Commonwealth Water Polo Championships
in Perth.
The Aussie Sharks men blasted England out of the water 21-2
and the women beat England 16-2 to remain unbeaten.
Vice-captain Trent Franklin may have top-scored with four
goals but he didn't finish the game as he was sent for misconduct
for allegedly pushing a player in the face in the final quarter.
The Aussie women were in total command with nine scorers,
led by powerful outside shooter Yvette Balla-Gow with four.
South Africa women gained a second win, downing Scotland
12-1 while South Africa men moved to seven points with an
18-2 annihilation of Wales.
The battle is now on for semi-final berths with South Africa
men coming up against second-ranked Canada tomorrow while
England and New Zealand are also in the mix for the final
two places.
Australia and Canada are safely through while New Zealand
has two games tomorrow and should beat Singapore to make the
finals before facing Australia in the evening.
That leaves England to beat Scotland as expected to fill
the fourth position.
