FIRST DAY OF CHAMPIONSHIPS SEES PROMISING PERFORMANCES
The first day of the 2006 British Synchronised Swimming Championships
and ASA National Age Groups was dominated by the performances
of Jenna Randall and the City of Birmingham Synchronised Swimming
Club.
After gaining excellent marks in both her British Championship
elements and her National Age Groups (NAGS) figures, Commonwealth
silver medallist Jenna Randall set the standard in the technical
solo competition.
Randall, (18) of Rushmoor Synchronised Swimming club, has
been looking forward to showing how much she has learnt from
her successful year.
"I was pleased with my performance today," she
said. "I haven't been feeling too well so I received
an excellent score despite that."
"I was a little disappointed with the low mark of 7.7,
but I will work hard to improve upon that tomorrow, when I
am competing in the free solo and the combinations. It was
good performing in front of my club and a home crowd, the
support was excellent."
"I have been to three major championships this year
and I feel I have learnt a lot and I feel my routine reflects
that."
A promising performance in the British Championships technical
solo competition also came from Lauren Smith, (23) of Rushmoor
Synchronised Swimming club.
The former European Junior Championships team member has
been looking forward to competing in the competition.
"I really enjoyed my swim," she said. "I have
been working hard towards this competition and I was looking
to swim well, so I was pleased with the marks I received and
my coach was happy. I am looking forward to tomorrow and the
free solo routine."
In the National Age Groups combinations the City of Birmingham
dominated the 19 and under category. The team, which included
2006 World Junior Championships team member Elizabeth Smith
(17), gave a top class performance to receive excellent marks
from the judges for artistic interpretation.
Also giving strong performances in the National Age Groups
were Bristol Central and Rushmoor in the duets and combinations.
The events start on Sunday at 9am with the British Synchronised
Swimming Championship Free Solo routine.
