ASA PILOTS AQUATIC FITNESS QUALIFICATIONS
The Amateur Swimming Association pilots its new Aquatic Fitness
Promoter qualification this month to equip front of house
staff and lifeguards with the skills needed to advise on aquatic
activity.
The Aquatic Fitness Promoter is the first in a series of
qualifications set to enable leisure providers to offer a
more rounded experience in the pool, by providing and advising
on aquatic activities, including circuits, aqua jogging, aquafit
and Swimfit - the ASA's online fitness club for swimmers.
More than 50 candidates from Beverley, East Riding, Surrey
(Arena Pool) and Hatfield (University of Hertfordshire) are
taking part in the day-long pilot that will give them the
skills to advise on aquatic activities as part of a wider
fitness programme.
"The introduction of these qualifications reaffirms
the ASA's commitment to get Britain active through aquatic
activity," explains ASA Coach Education Manager Spencer
Moore. "Swimming is universally recognised as an important
fitness tool and these pilots are great examples of the aquatic
and fitness industries working together."
"We hope to iron out any niggles from this round of
pilots and be in a position to offer the course countrywide
later on in the year."
