SWIMMERS SUPPORT ASA AT LEISURE SHOW

A trio of Britain’s best-known swimmers will be in action with the ASA at Leisure Industry Week in Birmingham from 20-22 September 2005.

Olympic bronze medallist Steve Parry, five-time consecutive world short course champion James Hickman and Britain’s most decorated female swimmer Karen Pickering will be lending a hand at the ASA stand throughout the three-day event.

This year’s event is better than ever for the swimming industry and its supporters as LIW - the leisure sector’s largest and longest running convention and trade exhibition - has announced it is making wet leisure a major focus of the show.

A unique swimming pool is being constructed on the show floor at the heart of the wet leisure area, which will feature activities and demonstrations run by the ASA including Aqua Fit, synchronised swimming, mini-polo! and SwimFit sessions which will be led by British Olympians.

The Royal Life Saving Society, the British Sub-Aqua Club and the British Swimming Pool Federation will also be organising activities in the pool at what is poised to be the largest national annual gathering of professionals across the swimming pool and wet leisure industry.

ASA business manager Mandy Mason is really looking forward to this year’s event:

“We’re all really excited at putting on a diverse range of events across our different disciplines at what is planned to be the best Leisure Industry Week yet,” she said.

“Our team of dedicated staff will be on hand to welcome both existing and prospective customers and talk about how they can maximise the potential of their swim programmes using ASA products and services.”

ASA Chief Executive David Sparkes is delighted to partner the pool industry:

“The ASA is really thrilled about being able to make a much bigger impact at LIW this year,” he enthused.

“This partnership with the British Swimming Pool Federation is a first for us and enables us to make excellent use of our time at the show and attract more visitors from the across the leisure industry.”

Leisure Industry Week 2005 takes place at Birmingham NEC from 20-22 September.

Steve, James and Karen will be at the ASA stand to sign autographs and will be giving a SwimFit demonstration in the pool from 1.15 to 1.45pm each day as follows:

Tuesday - Steve Parry
Wednesday - James Hickman
Thursday - Karen Pickering
