SWIMFIT TO RELAUNCH AT LIW
The Amateur Swimming Association's Swimfit programme is re-launched
this week following the introduction of a new poolside unit
to provide swimmers with fitness training support.
The new unit, produced in conjunction with Speedo, will carry
programme cards and training equipment, including kickboards
and hand paddles, which means Swimfit members will be able
to take part in a variety of drills at their local leisure
centre.
The poolside unit is launched at the Leisure Industry Week
(LIW) taking place from tomorrow at Birmingham's NEC. Olympic
swimmers Steve Parry, James Hickman and Karen Pickering will
be on hand to demonstrate the Swimfit drills in a pool that
is being constructed for the three-day expo.
Facility operators will be able to sign up to one of four
Swimfit packages which will provide them with a pool side
unit and allow customers to gain access to Swimfit.com free
of charge or for discounted rates.
For those people who would like to sign up to Swimfit, but
whose leisure centre doesn't provide the programme, membership
costs just £9.99 per year and includes a free Swimfit
hat and goggles.
The Swimfit website provides more than 30 easy-to-follow
training sessions and allows members to log their progress
in the pool with detailed programme analysis that tracks distance
swum and calories burnt.
A brand new facility also lets members record other activities
such as cycling, running and aerobics in order to provide
feedback on their full workout programme.
ASA Commercial Director Katie Brazier believes the new poolside
unit and membership packages for facility operators will allow
more people to benefit from Swimfit.
"The re-launch is an enhancement of the current Swimfit
programme and will provide us with a physical presence on
the poolside," she said. "It also strengthens our
relationship with Speedo and allows us to provide a better
service for fitness swimmers.
"As the Government is putting more resources into building
a healthier nation, it is important that we publicise the
benefits of fitness swimming and make the Swimfit programme
more accessible to the public."
UK Sales Director for Speedo, Callum Sneddon, believes the
Swimfit partnership is a logical step in building the company's
association with the ASA:
"Linking up with the ASA on the Swimfit re-launch adds
value to our strong relationship with the national governing
body and allows us to offer an improved service to leisure
swimmers," he said.
"We hope that the structured fitness programme and accessible
training aides will encourage even more swimmers into the
pool."
