DISABILITY SQUAD ON TOP OF THE WORLD
A Great Britain swim team are celebrating today after being
crowned World Champions at the INAS-FID Swimming Championships
in the Czech Republic.
The 19-strong British team collected 25 medals – 10
of them gold – at the international event for swimmers
with a learning disability.
Britain finished ahead of Hungary and Chinese Taipei in the
medal table to record one of their most successful meets ever.
One of the best results was in the 200m Butterfly where Britain
secured a one-two-three courtesy of Chris Pugh (Leigh), Craig
Moate (Barking) and David Vaughan (Swansea).
Team Manager Carol Halpin was understandably thrilled with
the result:
“This really was a staggering performance from the
whole team,” she said. “We had brilliant team
captains who were willing to support and encourage the rest
of the squad, a great staff team who worked together and swimmers
with pure talent, grit and determination. I am just so proud
to have managed this group of World Champions.”
