SWIMMERS PREPARE FOR YEAR'S MAIN EVENTS
Great Britain's swimmers will travel overseas as they continue
to prepare for this summer's major international competitions.
More than 80 swimmers will converge on Loughborough this
weekend as the best of Britain face each other for the first
of three Stage meets ahead of the World Championships, European
Junior Championships and European Youth Olympic Festival this
summer.
The meet will kick start three-weeks of national event camps
where the cream of British swimming will train alongside one
another in one of seven event-specific camps. A small group
of five will also attend the Mare Nostrum meets in Barcelona,
Canet and Rome at the start of June.
A Butterfly camp will be hosted in Mataro, Spain; swimmers
will attend a Breaststroke camp in Eger, Hungary; sprinters
will be heading to Taipa, Macau; the men's and women's 200m
Freestylers will travel to Phoenix and Pasadena in the U.S.
respectively; and distance specialists will head to Callela
in Spain.
The month is capped off by the Stage Two meet at Sheffield's
Ponds Forge from 27-29 May where the swimmers will be up against
following the previous weeks' intensive training programmes.
The final chance for swimmers to compete before their major
competitions will be at the Stage Three meet in Swansea from
17-19 June, which doubles up as the final chance for athletes
to qualify for the World Championships.
