FREESTYLERS SET THE STANDARD IN CALIFORNIA
Britain's freestyle swimmers imposed their authority on their
American hosts at the Speedo Grand Challenge in California
by taking clean sweeps in the Men's and Women's 200m events.
Loughborough University's Mel Marshall brought the Women's
200m Freestyle home in 1:58.60 to set a new meet record in
Irvine and was followed by Loughborough's Caitlin McClatchey
in 2:00.67, Jo Jackson of Durham Aquatics in 2:00.93 and Julia
Beckett of Loughborough in 2:03.42.
City of Liverpool's Fran Halsall set a new personal best
time in the A final which she won in 2:03.45 and Kate Richardson
(Kingston upon Hull) made it a top six for the British women
in 2:03.71.
Ross Davenport (University of Bath) won the Men's event in
a new meet record time of 1:49.56 with Dave Carry (Loughborough
University) taking third spot in 1:50.19 and Ed Sinclair (Millfield)
fourth in 1:50.83. Euan Dale won the A final in 1:51.67.
Carry finished on the top step of the podium in the Men's
400m Freestyle when he posted a meet record of 3:52.35 for
the Men's 400m Freestyle. Dean Milwain (City of Derby) was
fourth in 3:59.71.
Loughborough University's Liam Tancock finished third in
the Men's 200m Backstroke in a personal best time of 2:03.17,
Jo Fargus, swimming for Trojans, California, took the bronze
in the women's event in 2:17.19. Loughborough's Karen Lee
won the A final in 2:17.95.
