The EYOF competition in Lignano, Italy - Halfway update.
This has certainly been an impressive meet for British Swimmers
and at the halfway stage they've gathered seven gold, one
silver and one bronze.
The team, under the guidance of Nick Juba, Graham Bassi and
Ian Wilson, have done an outstanding and professional job.
The team as a whole have out-turned their opposition and
shown great pacing skills in winning their events as well
as utilising their strength in the back end of their races.
The combination of very talented athletes and strong home-coaching
programmes have paid dividends at this meet.
The outstanding performance by the females is significant
and recognition must be given to the five-week training Camp
in Mexico in November/December last year. The confidence gained
during this camp and subsequent competition at the US Open,
along with swimming the European World Cups in January, has
paid off for the girls involved in this programme.
This is a process that must be repeated in future in preparing
both the men's and women's teams.
With two day's of swimming to go we have strong medal prospects
from a team with both courage and conviction and this should
be a result for Britain to feel very proud of.
It will be exciting to watch our youth athletes perform on
top of this at the European Junior Championships next week
and at the World Championships a week later.
The athletes at the EYOF have set high standards for both
the youth and senior teams to emulate in the next two weeks.
